Shaffer Chimere Smith (nacido el 18 de octubre de 1979 en Camden (Arkansas), aunque creció en Las Vegas, Nevada) es un cantante de R&B y compositor de canciones. Es más conocido por Ne-Yo. Actualmente pertenece a Def Jam Records. Consiguió mucho reconocimiento tras co-escribir el tema "Let Me Love You" de Mario, todo un éxito a finales de 2004 y principios de 2005. Comenzó su propia carrera profesional en 2005 con su álbum debut In My Own Words, lanzado a principios de 2006 y debutando #1 en Billboard 200. Durante ese periodo, el segundo single del disco, "So Sick" (producido por Stargate), alcanzó el puesto más alto de Billboard Hot 100. Es descendiente afroamericano, puertorriqueño y chino. Su segundo disco fue titulado Because Of You con más influencia Soul que con R&B. El 16 de Septiembre del año pasado, el 2008, publicó su tercer disco llamado Year of the gentleman, cuyo primer single se llama "Closer", editado por Def Jam Recordings.

En ese mismo año, Ne-Yo realizó para el nuevo disco de reencuentro del grupo juvenil de finales de los 80s New Kids On The Block, una canción llamada "Single" , la cual se posicionó rápidamente en la lista Billboard el mismo año. Este año ha compuesto la fantástica canción Never Know I needed que da vida a la película La princesa y el sapo ya en cines y pronto en DVD.
